How can assistive technology support learning and communication?

Do you want to improve your child’s confidence and attitude towards learning? Do they get upset when they make mistakes in their work? Do you want to remove the physical task of writing? Does your child manage to capture their full imagination and thoughts – or do they just write the minimum requirement?

Join Dyslexia Sparks’ FREE online support session on assistive technology – Thursday 7th April 9.30 to 10.30am – for insight into the tech tools built into Microsoft Word that are specifically designed to support learning and communication.

In this session, you will:

  • develop an understanding of how using assistive technology as part of your child’s learning can promote confidence and independence – and decrease the need for additional support.
  • gain an overview of the tools built into Microsoft Word which can assist literacy and communication skills
  • be made aware of programmes which can be bought / subscribed to that can support learning.

Please note: Your child does not need to be dyslexic in order for you and them to benefit from the assistive technology session – it can help support anyone in everyday life.

This session will be led by Amy Appleton, Specialist Teacher and Assessor at Dyslexia Sparks. Amy will draw upon her experience within the fields of mainstream teaching, specialist teaching and dyslexia to help you develop your ability to support your child with their learning journey and in turn improve your child’s confidence.

Places are free but limited and must be booked in advance. For further details and to book, please visit our Eventbrite page or contact us directly at nicola.markham@dyslexia-sparks.org.uk . A recording of the session will be sent to all registered attendees after the event.

Dyslexia Sparks is Hull and East Yorkshire’s only registered charity for dyslexia. The session is held as part of our free, monthly online parent support group which often features key topics and guest speakers.
