With dyslexia in the (red) spotlight this International Dyslexia Awareness Month, local charity Dyslexia Sparks, is calling on people to help make a difference to the lives of dyslexic children and adults in Hull and East Yorkshire.

Dyslexia Sparks – the only registered charity for dyslexia in the local area – has announced opportunities to join their Board of Trustees and play a pivotal role in ensuring the continuing success of an organisation that has been helping dyslexic individuals to thrive since 2016.  The opportunities are suitable for people from a wide range of backgrounds and experience who are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of local dyslexic children and adults.

Jane Craig, Founding Director and Dyslexia Specialist, Dyslexia Sparks, said:

“As the only registered charity for dyslexia in Hull and East Yorkshire it is critical – now more than ever before – that we continue our vital work. We’re recruiting for committed and skilled Trustees who share our vision for a world where dyslexic individuals are recognised and celebrated for the unique talents and strengths that they have to offer.”

Dyslexia Sparks supports dyslexic children and adults to fulfil their potential through diagnostic dyslexia assessments, specialist tuition and advice and guidance. The organisation delivers training to schools and organisations, helping them to spot the signs of dyslexia and support dyslexic individuals.

The charity also promotes dyslexia awareness through their campaigning work. As part of this, the organisation is currently helping to put dyslexia in the spotlight this month with their team of specialists and Sparky Students participating in the global movement to #GoRedForDyslexia. This worldwide campaign – part of International Dyslexia Awareness Month – promotes positivity and understanding around the specific learning difficulty which affects an estimated 1 in 10 people.

Jane added:
“This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a well-established organisation that delivers a unique, specialist and whole-person approach which makes a real difference to the lives of its beneficiaries. Although it would be welcomed, previous Trustee experience is not necessary. Enthusiasm for and knowledge of our cause is. Get in touch to put that passion into practice this International Dyslexia Awareness Month!”
