This year’s theme for Dyslexia Awareness Week is all about ‘Raising the Volume’ on dyslexia and helping people better understand what it really is.
While many pupils may have heard of dyslexia, or even know a classmate who is dyslexic, few understand the challenges it can bring. Our aim was simple but powerful – to reach as many school children as possible in one week and their families.
Through fun and engaging school assemblies, children learnt that dyslexia is about much more than tricky spelling and reading. We busted some common myths and uncovered facts about how dyslexia impacts learning. Most importantly, we encouraged open conversations to reduce stigma in the classroom going forward.
“Thank you for supporting the school today – it was brilliant, helpful and informative! I know the children will have taken this on board and thought a lot about it.” Lucy Hudson, Head Teacher – Hunsley Primary School
”At Dyslexia Sparks, we’re passionate about empowering schools to create inclusive environments where every child can thrive. By breaking down barriers and starting these conversations early, we hope to give children the confidence to ask for help when they need it, and show kindness to others.
Jane Craig, Founding Director Dyslexia Sparks
